IMAANI BROWN

Imaani Brown, the son of an Iranian father and Emirati mother, was born in Iran and grew up in Norway and Germany. His last name plays off of his skin color, since he was always called "Brownie" as a child. Imaani's musical background is shaped by hip-hop music. He works as a choreographer and dancer for theater productions and musicals. Imaani has worked as a dancer for Diesel, Stabilo, MTV Europe Music Awards 1998, Tommy Boy,Africa Bambaataa,MTV,VIVA and more.
After working for a year as a choreographer in Paris, this deep-rooted b-boy and hip-hop artist had his first encounter with electronic music.
His friend, Gerome, gave him a deep house mix tape that excited Imaani so much that he just couldn't get enough of it. From that point on, Imaani did not just buy hip-hop music but house stuff, as well.
After living in Berlin for several years and seeing that some of his friends had home studios, Imaani bought himself an MPC and started creating his own beats. However, he didn't have the time to do it professionally, since he was still having to travel and dance at the same time.
So Imaani dropped everything and just focused on his dancing, working as a choreographer for a year and a half in Bangkok. While there, he got to know the Thai club scene and got back in touch with house music!
In 2009, when Imaani had returned to Germany--where he current lives in the South--he decided to set up a home studio again and to produce house music.
Imaani Brown released his first EP in 2010: Deep Touch. It had first been released under his own label, Brown Skin Music, and has now been re-released with some additional tracks under the experienced New York record label, Deep Nota Records.
Imaani's musical influences include J-Dilla, Primo, Q-Tip, Pete Rock, Maw, Theo Parrish, Jay Denes, DJ Deep and others.
Imaani Brown's music doesn't just fit into a single category. Sometimes it's deep, sometimes it's tech, sometimes it's just plain funky! But his primary domain is definitely Deep House.
